The displaced families are faced with many problems including lack of shelter and food, member of Kunduz provincial council Aminullah said.

“Almost 1,000 families have been displaced following clashes between security forces and the Taliban in Qala-e-Zal district,” Aminullah said. “Their situation is concerning.”

Many of the displaced families are living in Dasht-e-Abdan area in the outskirts of Kunduz City.

“We left our houses in search of safety when clashes intensified between government forces and the Taliban,” head of a 12-member displaced family, Nazar Mohammad, 60, said.

He said they left everything in their village in a bid to save their children from the war.

“We have chosen to live in Dasht-e-Abdan as we left our homes due to heavy conflicts. We need food. We are living in a desert. We need government’s assistance,” said Allahberdi, a resident of Qala-e-Zal district.

A local official in Kunduz said government has started assessing the displaced persons and that they will receive assistance in the near future.
